Coldplay fan who ‘struggles with walking’ got a ride from Chris Martin What they talked about

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin demonstrated his connection to his fans last weekend.

Saundra Glenn, a 64-year-old from Luton, England, told TODAY.com that she had been trying to use the wheelchair-accessible entrance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on May 26 due to her osteoarthritis and joint problems when she encountered long lines and several obstacles.

Glenn says she was “having difficulty walking” and because of her illness she eventually decided to watch Coldplay from home. Then Martin’s car pulled up and a woman offered her a ride, Glenn says.

“The door was automatic, and there was Chris Martin,” says Glenn. “I recognized him from a distance and said, ‘Oh, that’s Chris Martin! I can’t get in the car with him!’ He said, ‘Yes, you can come in.'”

During the drive to the venue, according to Glenn, they talked about, among other things, their lobbying work in Luton, Martin’s performance, ageing and relationships.

The 64-year-old later shared a selfie of herself and Martin in the back seat of the car with X, which sent his fanbase into an uproar as her tweet appeared to reference the singer’s relationship status.

“The moment Chris Martin @Coldplay saw me struggling to walk, stopped his car and gave me a ride,” she wrote. “F***ing awesome. I can’t believe this happened.”

“What a nice guy. We had a nice chat too. He’s single and likes #Luton,” she added of Martin, who has been in a romantic relationship with Dakota Johnson since 2017.

On social media, fans asked if the tweet suggested that Martin and Johnson had ended their relationship, but Glenn clarified the remark to TODAY.com.

“I looked at him and said, ‘You married a French woman,’ and he said, ‘I didn’t.’ I said, ‘Yeah, you married a French woman. I read it in the paper. I don’t know, I must be having an age slump. I thought you married a French woman.’ He said, ‘No, I’m single,'” Glenn says of their conversation.

“When he said he was single, he was just answering my question,” she adds.

After their ride, Glenn says, the two went their separate ways – he to the stage to headline the festival and she to watch from the audience. However, she noted that Martin had instructed his team to make sure she was dropped off where she needed to be.

“(Martin’s team) said, ‘Oh yeah, sure. We’ll take care of it.’ And they said, ‘Get in this buggy,'” Glenn says. “And on the front of the golf buggy it said ‘artist.'”

Glenn describes Martin as down-to-earth and compassionate, and says fame hasn’t “gone to his head.” She hopes the story inspires more people to do good.

“I think that’s heartwarming. It’s beautiful. And if more people want to do more of these types of things, to me that’s just a good thing because happiness makes you smile. It brings a little joy,” she says, adding her newly coined hashtag “#BeMoreLikeChrisMartin.”
