“I could feel his hand running through my body”; Singer Gowry Lekshmi reacts to criticism of “Murivu” – KINO – KINO-NEWS

The name Gowry Lekshmi first appeared in film in 2012, when Mohanlal’s highly acclaimed film Casanova was released. Gowri, then a school student, wrote and composed a song that ended up in the film. The gifted singer received the recognition she deserved for her brilliance only a decade later. Gowri is no longer a newbie, but an established name in the industry in 2024 with many top hits under her belt.

And now her album ‘Murivu’ is a talking point in cyberspace. Many people support it, others detest its bland lyrics. After many trolls and discussions on social media, Gowri decided to talk about the song in an interview with an online channel. Gowri says that this album describes the circumstances she faced between the ages of eight and 13.

“I still remember the dress I was wearing during the bus journey. The bus was too crowded that day and I was travelling from Vaikom to Thripunithura Hill Palace. I was standing there and then noticed the man standing behind me. He looked older than my father at that time.

He lifted my dress and I felt his hand slide over my body. This was my first experience and I didn’t know what was happening. I immediately pushed his hands away and went to the front of the vehicle. I didn’t tell anyone about the incident but I was convinced that it was a deplorable act. I have noted this in the text of “Murivu”.

Another incident happened when I was 13 years old in a relative’s house. My cousins lived there and I never thought that this house would cause me such wounds in life. A man in that house showed me his glaring side and I stopped visiting that place. I was afraid to tell my parents about it so I told my friend about the incident. I had to endure all this and it was not superfluous words that I uttered in Murivu but real suffering that I had to endure.
