The Dobbs The Supreme Court decision (June 24, 2022) two years ago saved the life of my son Jacob. My family is proof that pro-life measures save lives, build families, and ultimately protect mothers.

In the year before the Dobbs Once we decided, my husband and I began to wonder if we should consider adoption since we couldn’t have children. One day, praying for discernment, we went to a local boutique to look at baby clothes. When we told the cashier that we were considering adoption, she exclaimed with joy that she herself was adopted. Later, while I was at the checkout, I glanced at a bookshelf and one book immediately caught my attention: an adoption journal. I still have it today. This was the first of many signs that inspired us to pursue this path.

Adoption is not an easy task. I had to constantly question whether I could love a child I never conceived as much as I would a birth mother. But when God moved my heart in that direction, I knew that I would find great joy in loving and accepting each child as my own.

On Father’s Day 2022, my husband and I were put in touch with a local adoption agency that was only accepting six couples at a time. Our expectations of finding a suitable child were pretty low. However, we were determined to move forward with the adoption process.

Unfortunately, the financial costs associated with adoption were astronomical for a young couple like us. Yet, once again, my husband and I felt prayerfully compelled to empty our bank accounts in faith for this noble cause. I knew that in this small way, God was preparing our hearts for the ultimate sacrifice of parenthood, and that brought me peace.

Even though we were still waiting for an important check to cover the costs, we texted the adoption agency we were in contact with that we would send the deposit the next day.

The very next day we heard the news of the Dobbs Decision.

We had no idea what impact this decision would have on our lives.

Unbeknownst to us, a young woman nearby was 22 weeks pregnant and on her way to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. DobbsFlorida was a haven for abortions. Although she was from another state, she thought Florida was her best choice. But due to the Supreme Court decision in DobbsFlorida law now protects unborn life after 15 weeks, so Planned Parenthood referred her to a local Florida Care Net to learn more about non-abortive options. Through Care Net, our son’s birth mother decided to adopt.

A few months later, my husband and I received a call: a little boy had just been born and we could take him home.

We were thrilled. We had already decided to name our adopted son Jacob and couldn’t wait to finally meet him. Once again, a “wink from God” confirmed that we had made the right choice.

“What did you say you named your son?” a nurse asked my husband and me. When we answered “Jacob,” she was astonished. She told us that the nurses all agreed that our baby looked like Jacob and that’s what they called him since he was born.

Today, my husband and I are eternally grateful to Jacob’s biological mother for her courage in pursuing adoption. Without the Supreme Court’s decision and her willingness to choose life rather than seek an abortion elsewhere, our family would not exist today.

Instead, this brave young woman opened her heart to life, just as we opened our hearts to Jacob every day of his life. Every time I hear his little feet scurrying around our kitchen or his little voice saying “Mama,” I feel a wave of gratitude to God for allowing this miracle to happen for us.

The Dobbs The anniversary marks two years of enjoying a dream I once thought was impossible. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
