FanPost Friday: War stories about the Canadian invasion from T-Mobile Park

Hello and welcome back to FanPost Friday. I feel like I’ve said this several times over the last month of FPFs, but my goodness, it’s after the 4th of July and it’s DAMN sure as hell summer in the Pacific Northwest. I hope you had a safe and fun 4th and didn’t get too sunburned on this unusually hot Independence Day. I can’t remember a day that was warmer and sunnier than yesterday. What a treat.

Speaking of tidbits, Blue Jays fans are currently flocking to Seattle to drink, shit, and scream all weekend long. Most Mariners fans fall into two camps during the annual Canadian invasion of T-Mobile Park when the Jays come to town. Those who aren’t averse to conflict or enjoy a good verbal exchange will generally enjoy this series. Those who don’t like large and particularly belligerent crowds and want to avoid conflict with opposing fans at all costs will generally enjoy watching this series from home.

I definitely feel like it’s a stage of life thing. In my 20s and most of my 30s, I felt obligated to show up anytime a large fan base or out-of-town fan base came to Seattle for a series. I still firmly believe that Mariners players should feel like they’re playing a home game in their home stadium. In many of those seasons, the Mariners were very bad, so showing up to support the guys in the face of opposing hordes was a Sisyphean task at best for me. I did it plenty of times anyway, and was occasionally rewarded with sweet satisfaction, like at the famous Thunderstruck Game in 2014.

But I’m now at a stage in life where my strong feelings about supporting the Mariners in the face of the Molson-fueled cacophony are far outweighed by my children and my strong aversion to verbal sparring with strangers. I’m no longer here, and there are others who are, so I say to them, “Once again into the breach, my friends.”

I bet many LLers have some good stories to tell about the annual Blue Jays series in Seattle, and this is this week’s tip:

Tell us your funniest, worst and/or most triumphant war stories from the Blue Jays game against the Mariners in Seattle.

Let loose in the comments, but don’t overdo it at this weekend’s games to the point where you end up in King County Jail. Be safe! Remember, it’s just (a) game. Why do you have to be mad?
