Do we want Chris Pratt in the DCU?
Like many actors who repeatedly appear on screen in the same type of character, some viewers are tired of Chris Pratt.
The actor recently visited the set of James Gunn’s Superman reboot to reunite with his friend and former Marvel/Protector of the Galaxy director, sparking rumors he might move to DC. But is that what fans want?
Of course, there are different opinions on this. Pratt is a sought-after actor in every respect, having starred in numerous blockbusters, such as his role as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as the voice of Mario in the animated smash hit The Super Mario Bros. Moviewith dinosaurs in Jurassic World Franchise and now voice Garfield in The Garfield MovieAlthough his films have been very successful financially, audience enthusiasm for Chris Pratt is no longer as great as it once was.
A deteriorating relationship
The actor captured our hearts as the silly but lovable Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreationwhere his comedic talent shone. Then he surprised us all by turning into one of Hollywood’s leading action stars, but the love for the actor started to tarnish a bit due to a number of factors. From some distasteful social media posts to his affiliation with Hillsong Church, viewers started questioning the actor off-screen and on-screen, we all remember the social media meltdown when we heard the Mario voice, don’t we?
Pratt has appeared in so many franchises that people are starting to get tired of seeing him do the same thing over and over again without much variety. I’m not saying the man doesn’t have talent, his portrayal of Star-Lord over the last decade has been full of emotion and depth, but the type of films he appears in don’t vary much, leaving many feeling like he’s a one-hit pony. So do fans want him in Gunn’s new DC Universe?
Do we need more action comedies from Chris Pratt?
There will be some who will be more than happy to see Pratt reunited with Gunn, and Pratt is one of those people. After Gunn posted a picture of the pair on set and wrote, “It’s always nice to have friends on set,” Pratt was naturally asked if he would join the DCU. Speaking to TMZ On the idea of working with Gunn again and being a DC character, he said: “I’ll just have to leave that up to the fans and people like James. I’m not entirely sure. I’m really not sure.”
When asked if he would participate if asked, he replied, “Yes, of course. If it fits my schedule and makes sense, I would love it.”
The two have built a fantastic Marvel franchise together with Protector of the Galaxyso we know they work well, but do we want them to? Some fans of the actor are already suggesting roles he could play, from Green Lantern to Booster Gold. Many would want him to continue in the MCU, which is likely since Marvel has plans for Star-Lord in the future. Other actors have also made the move from Marvel to DC and work on both at the same time, such as Idris Elba.
At the end of the day, Pratt is a very lucrative actor and having him in the DC Universe would probably be a boon for the franchise. There will be people who will hate the casting and people who will be happy. Personally, I don’t have a strong reaction to that. Do I think there needs to be more diversity in actors in Hollywood? Sure, it gets tiring seeing the same people in similar roles over and over again, but it’s also a business and if the producers know that person will deliver and draw the crowds, then that makes sense too.
We’ll just have to wait and see if Pratt actually joins the DCU in the future and see what the fans say.
