Alzheimer’s Association to offer free virtual series for caregivers starting July 10 – Clarksville Online

Alzheimer Association Nashville, Tennessee: The most beautiful beaches – The Alzheimer’s Association is committed not only to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and dementia, but also to supporting those living with the disease and providing care and support to their care partners.

This July, the Alzheimer’s Association launches its five-part virtual webinar series, “The Empowered Caregiver,” teaching the fundamentals of caregiving.

This five-part series will take place on five consecutive Wednesdays in July and the first week of August. This is a free and virtual program.

The topics covered are as follows

July 10: Creating the foundations of care
Building Foundations of Caregiving examines the role of the caregiver and the changes they may experience, as well as building a support team and managing caregiver stress.

July 17: Support for independence
Independence support focuses on helping the person with dementia participate in daily activities by providing the right level of support and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.

July 24: Communicate effectively
Effective Communication teaches how dementia affects communication and offers tips for communicating well with family, friends and healthcare professionals.

July 31: Response to dementia-related behavior
Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors describes common behavior changes in detail, how they are a form of communication, how to manage behaviors, and when additional help is needed.

August 7: Exploring care and support services
Exploring Care and Support Services examines how best to prepare for future care decisions and changes, including respite care, nursing home care and end-of-life care.
