Why doesn’t Romeo Doubs get the love he deserves?

Why doesn’t Romeo Doubs get the love he deserves?

The Green Bay Packers have a young and exciting receiver team. Jordan Love has many interesting options at his disposal, from speedster Christian Watson to elite route runner Dontayvion Wicks to playmaker Jayden Reed.

Romeo Doubs, however, often gets lost in the crowd. Whether it’s because of his quiet demeanor or his lack of outstanding skills in a particular area, Doubs tends not to get as much attention as Green Bay’s other receivers.

Doubs will run opposing defenses into the ground if they ignore him, and Matt LaFleur knows he’s an impact player.

I think Rome has had an outstanding spring. And it shows in the work he puts in on a daily basis. He’s there in the morning and he’s one of the last ones out of the building. He’s very intentional about his work and I think it shows. We’ve challenged him on a few things that we thought he could really do better at and he’s taken it. He’s had a lot of great moments. In fact, I can’t think of a single bad day he’s had out there. He’s definitely making progress.

Doubs has improved dramatically from his first season in Green Bay to his second. He will look to make a similar jump next season. In his rookie year, Doubs caught 42 of his 67 targeted passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns. In his second season, Doubs caught 69 of his 108 targeted passes for 908 yards and nine touchdowns when including playoff numbers.

The Nevada product tripled his touchdown total, which led the team, doubled his yardage and increased his yards per reception from 10.1 to 13.2. Doubs had nearly 1,000 yards and continues to get better.

“I thought it was progressive,” Doubs said. “I don’t put a lot of emphasis on good or bad. I think alignment is everything. And just as we’ve gotten into this offseason, every day has been something I’ve been able to get better at, and that’s something I’m looking forward to over the course of this summer and in camp.”

Only the Packers know how they will use their quartet of wideouts, but they should add Doubs to their main rotation. Doubs does everything you want him to do and does it well. He may not have elite speed or ability to score after the catch, but his running routes, hands and jump ball skills are outstanding.

Doubs has a bit of a Davante Adams streak when it comes to getting open near the goal line. He has a feel for the end zone and was fourth in the NFL in touchdown receptions last season.

Some of these highlights are truly spectacular.

The humble Doubs doesn’t usually make headlines, but his performance on the field speaks for itself. There’s absolutely no reason why he can’t reach 1,000 yards this season.

The third-year receiver has worked hard in the offseason and impressed the coaches, who seem to have more confidence in him than ever before.

With Love getting better with every snap, Green Bay’s offensive potential is truly limitless. However, Doubs is a key part of that. It’s nice to have an ultra-reliable wide receiver for all situations.

Doubs doesn’t always get the most media attention and has a more reserved personality. On the field, however, he is a monster. If you underestimate him this coming season, wake up.
