Taylor Swift ends show in Amsterdam

Taylor Swift asked Amsterdam stadium staff three times to help fans during her ten-minute performance of “All Too Well.”

As she closed out her “Red” era, Swift sang, “I wanna be my old self again, but I’m still trying to find it.” Her gaze was fixed on the floor area on the right side of the stage (audience perspective). She continued singing her next two lines before pausing and saying, “They need some help over there where they’re shining their lights.”

She didn’t seem to move her gaze from the spot, she strummed her guitar and continued singing. Her black and red jacket shone.

“But you keep my old scarf from that first week, because it reminds you of innocence and of me. You can’t get rid of it,” she sang, before raising her voice slightly and saying firmly, “You need help.”

With her hand pointing in the direction where fans in the Johan Cruijff Arena were waving their flashlights, she sang for another 30 seconds before interrupting the song for a third time: “Do you have any help?”

By the third interruption, workers were able to get onto the packed stage. One concertgoer tweeted, “GA is SO crowded, it’s scary.”

Outside of Swift’s US Eras Tour, the venue is usually open, meaning there are no chairs and no assigned seating. Swift has frequently paused her show in Europe to ask her fans for help.

In Scotland, the singer noticed that a fan needed help and strummed her guitar until help arrived.

In London she asked for support on several songs.

“We need help right at the end of the ramp, right where they’re waving,” she said. The interruptions mostly happen during songs from the sets “Folkmore” (combined “Folklore”/”Evermore” set), “Red” and “1989.”

Two eras later, during the combined “Folkmore” set, Swift was explaining her songwriting process for “Betty” when she paused to ask fans, “Do we need any help back there? Are you OK? Are you happy or… oh, you’re just happy. You’re just holding up your phone. That’s great. That’s better. By the way, everyone that works here at the stadium cares so much about you. And they’re so upbeat and I just wanted to thank them.”

Stadium staff distributed free water on the floor and emergency personnel were on hand to help fans who became overheated during the show.

Although the temperature in the Dutch capital is 16 degrees, some fans are not drinking much water before the show, which is admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, for fear of having to go to the toilet and losing their place near the long catwalk.

Swift has another show in Amsterdam on Saturday.
