Taylor Swift just named this singer artist of the summer (and I predicted it weeks ago)

Taylor Swift is known as a woman who supports other women – from her support of once-up-and-coming talents like HAIM and Phoebe Bridgers to her outspoken accusations of slut-shaming and her re-recordings to reclaim her songs from years of male dominance. But she is also a sophisticated musician, and while she would never say anything mean about another celebrity (that is, not unless it was coded in a song), when she publicly calls a female pop star a The Artists of the summer, we are listening.

Her newest support: Sabrina Carpenter, who actually opened for Taylor on tour last year.

The shout-out came on Instagram, where Carpenter posted a not-so-humble boast about her incredible past few weeks, saying, “And just like that you guys sold out the entire Short n’ Sweet tour, Espresso hit number 1 on pop radio and I slid down that slide :’) Thank you all, thank you so much!!!”

Many celebs, including Jenette McCurdy and Angela Kinsey, congratulated her. But the most notable was none other than the queen herself, Taylor Swift, who wrote: “SUMMER OF SABRINA AND MAY IT CONTINUE FOREVER 😇.”

I don’t want to pat myself on the back too much, but I predicted this back in June when I said “Espresso” would be the song of the summer and Sabrina Carpenter in general would be the top trend of summer 2024. I’m sure you’ve heard the catchy tune in which a seemingly hyperactive vixen equates her ability to keep him up all night to a double shot of caffeine (and sometimes a Mountain Dew). The lyrics are really silly. (“That morning coffee, brewed it for ya. One touch and I brand newed it for ya” Um OK?) But it’s catchy as hell and easy to bop and sing along to, and that’s honestly all I want from a summer jam session.

Carpenter shows no signs of stopping. He has a new album coming out in August and a 29-date tour kicking off in September. And as for Swift? I’m just going to sit here and wait patiently for her to confirm one of my other all-important summer trend predictions.
