Taylor Sheridan has to rehabilitate a main character in Yellowstone, which could be the perfect ending for the series after Kevin Costner’s exit

Taylor Sheridan has the Yellowstone saga that brings twists and turns that fans couldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams. But even then, there were certain elements of the Western story that even fans couldn’t help but point out seemed incredibly biased and unsatisfying, like the mere existence and character development of Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton in the story.

As fans have seen too many times in the blockbuster series, Bentley’s character is rarely ever treated properly, especially by his adoptive father John Dutton. But with the series nearing its end, it’s precisely this character that Sheridan must redeem in order to give the hit saga a completely satisfying ending after Costner’s exit.

Taylor Sheridan must rescue Jamie before Yellowstone End

Although the series was, for the most part, a true masterpiece that made viewers not put down their respective devices, many fans were quite disappointed with this particular character development of Wes Bentley’s Dutton. This is because they feel that this particular character was just never good enough, despite giving everything he had to prove his worth.

As Redditor r/MyCrazyXX pointed out in his post on the r/YellowstonePN subreddit, Jamie has always been treated abusively by the people he considered closest to him. Not only is he “a lawyer with two Harvard degrees who did everything that was asked of him,” but he was also “The good boy grows up, becomes Attorney General and keeps the Duttons out of all kinds of trouble.”

In response, he received nothing more than Kevin Costner’s John Dutton “He called him his ‘biggest failure’ and ultimately refused to acknowledge him as the son of his assistant Clara.” And even when he finds out that he is not John’s real son, John reacts extremely insensitively to him and tells him that he “You should be grateful that we raised you instead of throwing you through the system.”

The Redditor pointed out more sick examples of how brutal the character arc Taylor Sheridan wrote for Bentley’s character is, and continued:

(John) even tells (him) to commit suicide, then berates him for almost doing it. Oh, and then there’s the time John steals (him) the governorship, and the time he beats him up for not answering his phone.

Does anyone else find the portrayal of adoption in this show strange?

Given all of this, and the fact that the series will soon reach its finale with Costner’s exit, it seems like it’s time for Sheridan to finally redeem this particular character rather than continue to be lambasted by the other Duttons. If anything, this could be the perfect ending to his story and the entire saga, and fans agree.

Fans say Wes Bentley’s character needs to be redeemed now

Throughout the series, Wes Bentley’s character tries really, really hard to win his adoptive father’s approval, but he never really seems to succeed. That’s because no Dutton has been willing to treat him with the love and respect he deserves and craves all along.

However, fans have pointed out in the comments section how much they are yearning for Bentley’s character because he has already gone through character development. Here’s what they’re saying:

That being said, it’s undeniably obvious that fans are rooting for this particular Dutton to finally shine like he’s wanted to all his life. With that being said, it’s time for Sheridan to actually come up with a final storyline for his saga that redeems Bentley’s character, rather than continuing to declare him unworthy, the way the other Duttons treat him.
