Hoda Kotb laughs at Jenna Bush Hager’s sad confession about her love life on “Today”

Hoda Kotb laughs at Jenna Bush Hager’s sad confession about her love life on “Today”

Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb were discussing a bold statement made by Olivia Wilde’s seven-year-old daughter on tonight’s show when Bush Hager made a pretty dark confession about her own childhood crushes.

The Today The hosts reflected on a recent social media post from Wilde, which included a note from her daughter saying: “I don’t have a crush on anyone, I don’t need a boy.”

Although they found the moment “sweet,” it prompted Kotb and Bush Hager to reflect on their own early crushes.

“It’s also something that (just) happens. I think I was like Olivia Wilde’s daughter and said, ‘I don’t need a boy!’ But that’s because no boy liked me, you know what I mean?” she told Kotb in a rather dejected tone.

Kotb laughed at her co-host, then continued, “It was like a self-defense thing, like, ‘Oh yeah, I don’t need a boy,’ and I was like, ‘Ugh, but I wish I had one.'”

She added: “I don’t need one, but I want one.”

Poor Jenna!

The Today The presenter spoke openly about the embarrassing moments she experienced as a child. During one show, she and her twin sister Barbara Bush even got into an embarrassing argument about a boy they both supposedly liked in seventh grade.

During the show, Barbara was quick to set the record straight. “Well, he liked me,” she replied categorically, before later adding, “And then you liked him.”

After Jenna responded, “I don’t think he liked you at first,” Barbara explained, “Yes, he did. He told me I was cute, and if a boy tells you you’re cute in seventh grade…”

However, the argument quickly ended when Jenna asked her sister: “But why didn’t he ask you instead of me?”

“Because then he liked you,” Barbara replied.

Despite the awkward moment, the rest of the show went smoothly. And it seems that Jenna’s love life has since recovered: she and Henry Hager have now been married for 16 years and have three hilarious children.

Today with Jenna and Hoda airs weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
