Believing that weed improves your voice is stupid

Popular Ghanaian musician Nana Fynn, also known as 2Lock, has described as “stupidity” the misconception that smoking marijuana, also known as “weed”, can improve one’s voice.

In an interview on Accra FM on July 7, 2024, Nana Fynn cleared up common misconceptions surrounding singing performances.

He noted that there is a physiological connection between the ear and the throat and explained that although many people have a naturally good voice, the lack of a proper connection can impair their ability to sing.

Nana Fynn strongly rejected the idea that drug use, especially marijuana, can improve vocal abilities, saying: “If you don’t train your voice, you won’t be able to sing well, even if you take weed every day. To think that weed will improve your voice is stupid thinking.”

He stressed that confidence is a crucial element in singing, adding that those who use marijuana may simply lack confidence.

Nana Fynn addressed other myths related to vocal training. He confirmed that bananas help to loosen mucus from the throat, which can be beneficial for singers.

However, he warned against using the voice immediately after drinking cold water, as this could have a detrimental effect on the quality of the voice.

Nana Fynn Acquah Harrison rose to fame in 2000 with his debut album “Ankwansema” and has since released several successful albums for which he has received several Ghana Music Awards.

Outside of his music career, he is involved in gospel music, runs a studio and a hair salon, and enjoys playing football, snooker and reading historical and religious texts.
