Chris Jericho believes wrestling could be an Olympic sport

Chris Jericho believes that wrestling should be included as an Olympic sport.

Pro wrestling has always had to fight for legitimacy in the wider sporting climate. Those unfamiliar with it still think it’s a make-believe rather than a staged art form similar to many performing arts. The AEW star has a great idea to get wrestling the respect it deserves.

The former AEW Champion recently appeared on the Blocks Podcast to talk about things like the importance of being an entertainer, how long he will continue performing, and more.

During the interview, Jericho brought up a very interesting idea: He suggested that professional wrestling could be included in the Olympic Games like any other sport that is scored by points:

“I started thinking seriously about how professional wrestling could easily become an Olympic sport, since it is a sporting performance between two people, similar to figure skating or synchronized swimming or anything else that is scored on points.”

Chris Jericho explains how wrestling would work at the Olympics

Chris Jericho explained that wrestlers from different countries can put together matches to the best of their ability. They can then be judged on their performance and not on the result of the match:

“Think about it. So let’s say I’m from Canada. Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, the best wrestlers from Canada. We put together our routine, and then you have Will Ospreay and Michael Oku from England. They put together their routine.

Then you met Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson from the USA, who put together their routine. Then the judges said, “Okay, that was the best. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses. Just like in figure skating.”

The 2024 Summer Olympics, known as the “Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” are scheduled to begin in France later this month. The opening ceremony will take place on July 26, with some competitions starting as early as July 24. The 2024 edition will notably mark the first time that breakdancing will be included as an Olympic discipline.

Aside from that, The Learning Tree also talked about things like his beginnings in wrestling, the backstage politics he had to deal with in the 90s, and how things have changed since then.
