HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from FP1 at Silverstone as Lando Norris leads Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda spins out

McLaren driver Lando Norris set the pace in the first practice session for the British Grand Prix on Friday, leading his Aston Martin rival Lance Stroll and his teammate Oscar Piastri.

Max Verstappen finished fourth in his Red Bull, but unlike the top three drivers, he used only Pirelli’s medium tires instead of the soft ones in the various race schedules.

After some rain in the morning, it was an overcast race at the historic Silverstone circuit. Yuki Tsunoda was an early victim of the low grip, spinning into the gravel and triggering the red flag.

However, this was not the only dramatic moment, as in the final minutes of the session, Piastri’s McLaren came to a halt on its return to the pit lane, prompting race control to temporarily ban participation.

There were also several young drivers in action: Ollie Bearman drove for Haas after it was announced that he would be promoted full-time from 2025. Alongside F2 colleagues Isack Hadjar and Franco Colapinto, he drove for Red Bull and Williams respectively, and Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan.

Hadjar was caught up in the final dangerous moment as the chequered flag was waved, failing to notice Norris closing in on him through the flowing Abbey/Farm complex at the start of the lap, causing the Briton to brake too late as he attempted to avoid him.
