Michigan State football target Aydan West shares his thoughts after the visit

Aydan West of Quince Orchard High School in Maryland is a top cornerback in the class of 2025. He is rated three stars overall by 247Sports and is the No. 88 cornerback in the class. Michigan State offered West an offer late in its recruiting schedule, so late that it had to push back its decision window.

“I was actually scheduled for the 10th,” West told me when I first spoke with him. “I had it scheduled for the 10th, but I pushed it back because I felt like I needed more time. So I definitely want to commit before the (high school) season, and honestly, about July.”

I originally wrote that the Spartans had a lot of catching up to do and were working on it, with an official visit from the Maryland native scheduled for the weekend of June 21.

Now West will announce his decision on June 25, just days after his visit to East Lansing. West will have visited many schools in the month leading up to his announcement. West Virginia on May 31, Virginia on June 7, Cincinnati on the 14th, Wake Forest on the 17th. It can only help that the Spartans are on his mind as he makes his decision.

The Spartans have to prove to West that they have the program he wants. West told me that his main concern is the culture.

“We build relationships with each other and we stand up for each other,” West had said. “I want it to feel like a family, I don’t want it to feel like we’re just in it for business… to be successful you have to build relationships.”

The Spartans have not yet secured their first defensive back from the 2025 recruiting class. They missed out on another cornerback from Maryland, three-star Jayden Shipps, although they may be the favorites to sign three-star corner LaRue Zamorano from California.

Currently, the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Virginia for the West.

The Spartans needed to catch up, and since this is West’s last visit before his decision, this is their chance. A comeback win could be a sign to the college football world that Smith’s team is capable of acquiring talent.
