The Alhahest trailer excited gamers, but some fans became suspicious of the project. Fears that we were preparing for a recap of The Day Before were answered by one of the developers.

Game trailers can evoke strong emotions – but not always the ones the developers hoped for. Especially when it a trailer for a new game in the style of Dark Messiah of power and magic, where the title looks too good.

Interaction trailer

Alkahest was unveiled on June 26 as a first-person action game inspired by the spin-off Heroes of Might and Magic, the Czech RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance and the Dishonored series. The focus on interaction with the environment was carried over from the first part (of course at a level closer to modern standards; after all DM&M was published almost 18 years ago).

The game’s developers also promised that there would be no procedurally generated or artificially lengthened levels. Add to that the rather impressive graphics in the trailer, and it’s no wonder the material aroused as much admiration as doubt.

The day before for another time?

Many people immediately suspected that the trailer had nothing to do with the actual game. Some Internet users even accused Alkahest is another “fake” game in the style notorious The day before. Especially when one of them conducted a brief investigation into the allegedly Cypriot studio and found that the domain alkahestgame.com was registered with a Russian email address and most of the team is not active in the project’s Discord channel.

However, one of the developers (Cloud Prince) immediately responded to these allegations. An external company, a “local Cypriot team with British roots”, would be responsible for marketing the game – including setting up the domain. At least that’s what the developers thought, while the studio promised to investigate the matter.

Further comments:

  1. most members of the 42-person team speak Greek or Turkish, hence their modest activity on Discord;
  2. the lack of a separate website for Push Out Studio is due to both the young age of the team (founded a year ago) and the lack of active recruitment. The studio sees no need to set up a company domain, at least for the moment;
  3. perhaps most importantly – the trailer of Alkahest was developed on the game’s engine, but some camera angles and animations were prepared with the trailer in mind. The real, “raw” gameplay will be available in a few monthslong before the game is released. Gameplay tests are also planned.

The developers also confirmed the localization of Alkahest in 11 languages.

Semi-open world full of secrets

The developer’s information does not allay all concerns, although it must be admitted that they are currently more communicative than the developers of The day before.

There is also the advantage for developers that they do not have to overdo their promises for the time being.The world of Alkahest should only be “semi-open”, with isolated locations. This information will be displayed on the Steam game card:

We strive to create a highly interactive and believable semi-open world full of mystery and adventure. With branching gameplay options inspired by Dishonored, Dark Messiah of Power and Magic, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and other genre-defining games.

Of course, the players’ concerns are understandable, as Cloud Prince himself admitted, because – as he put it – “the state of the industry is tragic and players are constantly being cheated.” We can only hope that when we see Alkahest When we get to its “raw state” in a few months and try it out for ourselves in “playtests”, the game will still look as promising as it did in the trailer.

Alkahest has no release date yet.
