Fans pray for country music legend after heartbreaking death of her son

Fans and fellow artists sent prayers and well wishes to William Lee Golden of the Oak Ridge Boys following the death of his son William “Rusty” Golden on Monday.

Rusty Golden finished 65.

According to a press release from the band, he died at his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

“This is the hardest thing a father can ever go through,” William Lee Golden said in the press release. “I love my family more than anything. Rusty was a great musician, a talented songwriter and a wonderful son. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. I love you, son.”

William Lee Golden also posted about the death of his son on his X-Account (formerly Twitter).

“We thank you all for your love and support of Rusty over the years and respectfully ask that our family maintain their privacy during this difficult time,” he wrote.

“Lee and I are so sad to hear this, my friend,” singer Dale Houston responded. “We love your entire family and can only imagine the loss you are all feeling. Thank God we have the promise that we will all be together again. In the meantime, you are all in our prayers and we are just a phone call away. God bless you.”

“I am so sorry for your loss Mr. Golden,” wrote another. “Thinking of you and your family and praying for you. Sending my love to all of you.”

Rusty Golden followed in his father’s footsteps as a musician, singer and songwriter. As a songwriter for the Oak Ridge Boys’ album “Bobbie Sue,” he even received a gold record from the RIAA.

Later in life, he turned to gospel music after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery.
