Terry Crews from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” reprises his role in the new series

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews will reprise his role in Everybody Hates Chris for a new animated series.

The show created by Chris Rock, based on the comedian’s life and which ran in the 2000s, is set to be revived in a new Comedy Central show called “Everybody Still Hates Chris.”

Now it has been revealed that Crews is returning to voice Chris’ “gentle giant father” Julius after playing him in the original series, while Tichina Arnold returns as “smart, strong-willed” mother Rochelle (via Variety).

Chris – originally played by Abbott Elementary’s Tyler James Williams – is voiced by Tim Johnson Jr., while Ozioma Akagha plays younger sister Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh voices younger brother Drew, and Gunnar Sizemore plays his friend Greg.

Rock will be back to narrate the show and serve as an executive producer. The comedian said of the project: “I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood.”

Showrunner Sanjay Shah added: “I wanted this job to get free tickets to a Chris Rock stand-up show, but in the end we made something we are proud of and that stays true to the original series that we all loved.”

Everybody Hates Chris originally aired on UPN between 2005 and 2006 before moving to The CW and running for a total of four seasons until its conclusion in 2009.

Crews is perhaps best known over the past decade for his role as Terry Jeffords in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which ended in 2021.

In 2022, the actor revealed an idea for a Brooklyn Nine-Nine reunion film, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I still think we could do a heist movie.”

“We’ve always had our annual heist episode and I think that would be brilliant, especially with Peacock and all the great things NBC can already do.

“I think every cast member would be up for it if we did a nice hour-and-a-half episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Make it three episodes, always about the heist and a new heist, and it would all be wonderful.”

Everybody Still Hates Chris will premiere on Comedy Central later this year.
