Jordan Love’s “small test of success” causes a stir according to Nick Wright and nominates CJ Stroud and Brock Purdy with Packers QB for the regression year

Jordan Love’s “small test of success” causes a stir according to Nick Wright and nominates CJ Stroud and Brock Purdy with Packers QB for the regression year

In a recent episode of “First Things First,” Wright examined Love’s breakout season and pointed out that the packer QB’s success was based on a “tiny selection” of games. “It’s a tiny sample of a guy who doesn’t have a built-in large sample of high-level college students who are blue chip prospect type,” Wright said he had been warned against hasty coronations.

But Chris Broussard is not ready to bench Love yet. He is fully convinced of the young quarterback’s potential and says: “I think CJ Stroud is actually ahead of Jordan in terms of being the next superstar.” Broussard backed up his claim with some mind-blowing statistics: “In the last eight games, the 18 touchdowns, the one pick, he’s beaten Kansas City, he’s beaten Detroit and Chicago.”

The Journey of Love by Aaron Rodgers’ Replacement for a potential franchise quarterback was downright cinematic. In the 2023 season, he threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns and led the Packers to the playoffs. His performance against the Cowboys in the wildcard round was legendary and achieved a nearly perfect passer rating in his playoff debut.

But Wright heated things up even further, saying: “I’m curious to see which of these young guys who have shown the potential to be a superstar will have the biggest regression year.” It’s like he’s playing Russian roulette, and someone is bound to get a double-headed punch.

Young NFL quarterbacks ready to take over

While Love tries to fill the huge gaps left by Rodgers, he is not the only young QB making waves. CJ Stroud, the Houston Texans’ Wunderkind, has caused a stir faster than a Barry Sanders trick. His teammate Tank Dell is already making bold predictions: “I’m sure CJ has the chance to be the best quarterback in the league.”

Stroud’s rookie season was nothing to sneeze at, he threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns. He has Texans fans dreaming of a Super Bowl victory again.

Then there is Brock Purdy, the former Mr. Irrelevant, who is anything but for the 49ers. He finished second in the league in third- and fourth-down pass conversion rate in 2023. Not bad for a guy who was picked last in the draft, right?

But here’s where it gets interesting. Chris Simms, former NFL quarterback and current analyst, threw a Hail Mary into the debate. He claimed earlier this month“If (Green Bay Packers quarterback) Jordan Love played in the Super Bowl (with San Francisco), the 49ers would be Super Bowl winners.” That’s a hot take, hotter than a linebacker’s ice bath after a game!

As we prepare for the 2024 season, all eyes will be on these young quarterbacks. Will they continue to light up the scoreboard like a pinball machine, or will one of them fumble the regression Wright predicted? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the future of NFL quarterbacks looks brighter than the stadium lights on a Monday night.
