Taylor Fritz’s icy reply to Rinderknech: “Have a safe flight home” – Tennis Tonic

Taylor Fritz’s icy reply to Rinderknech: “Have a safe flight home” – Tennis Tonic

There was a lot of excitement at the Wimbledon Championships and one of the most anticipated second round matches was the duel between Taylor Fritz and Arthur Rinderknech. The two players had a history together that stretched back to their meeting at the 2023 French Open, where Rinderknech had criticized Fritz for his behavior.

Fast forward to Wimbledon 2024, and the tension between them was palpable. Fritz, known for his fiery competitive spirit, faced Rinderknech again. After a hard-fought battle, Fritz emerged victorious in four sets: 6-3, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.

But it wasn’t just the score that caught everyone’s attention. Cameras caught a frosty exchange between the players at the goal. Rinderknech, apparently wanting to bury the hatchet, asked Fritz: “I know what I did?” To which Fritz replied: “Yes, you know what you did. Stay calm.” The tension remained and it was clear that there was no friendly relationship between these rivals.

What had Rinderknech done? Well, it all reminded us of their previous meeting in Paris, where Fritz had silenced the crowd during their match. Rinderknech had not forgotten, and his clever remark had reignited the fire.

As Fritz advances to the third round, tennis fans eagerly await his next clash – this time against Alejandro Tabilo. But for now, the words “safe flight home” echo through the air at Wimbledon, testifying to the intensity of their rivalry.

That’s what happened.

Fritz said, “I know what you did?”
Rinderknech replied: “I know what I did,” to which Fritz said: “Yes, you know what you did.”

After the match, Fritz clarified: “As soon as I saw it, the match was basically over. I’m a very relaxed person. I don’t do anything that could upset people. So if someone goes out of their way to attack me, I’m not going to just put up with it. That gave me the extra incentive to win. As we shook hands, I wished myself a nice flight home.”

He asked me what I said. I told him what I said. He told me he was still in doubles. I said, “Oh, congratulations, good for you.” Then he started acting like he was saying, “Why are you so blah, blah, blah?” I said, “Dude, you know what you said. You know what you said. Don’t disrespect me before the game and then expect me to be all nice after the game. That’s not how it works.”
