Marcus Rosner hopes to revive the Hallmark series “Ride”

Marcus Rosner hopes to revive the Hallmark series “Ride”

Actor and producer Marcus Rosner has his hands full in 2024, from starring in several romantic comedies on the Hallmark Channel to overseeing films for his Canadian production company.

But there is one project Rosner would like to make room for: the chance to reunite with the cast of “Ride,” Hallmark’s short-lived series about the McMurrays, a fictional family of Colorado ranchers and local rodeo legends.

Hallmark confirmed in November 2023 that it had canceled the modern western after one season, but in an interview published by Us Weekly on July 4, Rosner said he believed fans would be happy to see the series rebooted in the form of a prequel film.

Rosner’s fans were outraged after the first episode of “Ride” premiered in March 2023. Although they expected him to be a full-time cast member, they were shocked to immediately learn that his character, champion bull rider Austin McMurray, died in a tragic rodeo accident and that the series would revolve around the family’s grief over his death.

Although he appeared in flashbacks throughout the series, Rosner told Us Weekly that he would like to give fans a glimpse of happier times, focusing on Austin McMurray’s life before the accident, including his marriage to Missy, an equestrian athlete played by Tiera Skovbye, who continued to live on the ranch after Austin’s death.

“I would like to propose to Hallmark that we do an Austin and Tiera character, Missy, (spinoff),” he told the magazine. “I would like to do something like a prequel Christmas movie set on the ranch or something and show the good times with them.”

“I love these characters,” he said, joking, “because I am one of them.”

But Rosner also said he was keen to make the project happen because of his close ties to his Ride co-stars, including Skovbye and Sara Garcia, whose character, ranch hand Valeria Galindo, revealed her complicated past and secret ties to Austin at the end of the first season.

“Tiera Skovbye and I have become pretty close,” Rosner told Us Weekly. “I would definitely love to do something with her (again). Then Sara Garcia… I cast her in a romantic comedy last year. We did a Christmas movie with my company. She was fantastic in that. So I’ve worked with Sara and I’d love to work with Tiera.”

After Hallmark canceled the series, The CW acquired it and aired the first season on television starting in January 2024. However, a second season was not picked up.

Most of the show’s stars, including Jake Foy, Beau Mirchoff, Nancy Travis and Tyler Jacob Moore, have moved on to other projects.

Like Rosner, who just starred in the June 29 premiere of “Falling Like Snowflakes,” Mirchoff continues to appear in Hallmark movies, including the upcoming Christmas movie “The Finnish Line,” according to Southern Living. At age 35, Mirchoff also graduated in April with a degree in environmental science. He also ended his five-year run as Jamie Hunter on the Freeform series “Good Trouble” in early 2024, according to IMDb.

Foy has launched a production company that has created a new 40-minute teen musical drama called “More Together,” which premieres on Amazon Prime on July 5. According to IMDb, he has also been cast in another Hallmark series, “The Chicken Sisters,” which is expected to premiere in 2024.

Garcia voices a character from the popular Netflix animated series “Unicorn Academy” and has been cast in the new NBC crime series “The Hunting Party,” which is set to premiere in 2025.

Travis, who played the family matriarch in “Ride,” was also cast in a new NBC project – a TV pilot for the drama “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” – and appeared in the 2024 feature film “Ordinary Angels,” according to Deadline.

Skovbye, who also appeared on the popular CW series “Riverdale” from 2017 to 2023, is committed to normalizing discussions about mental health on social media and has founded a one-on-one coaching business for aspiring actors.

Moore has not publicly announced what he is working on in 2024. Rosner, on the other hand, can next be seen on the Hallmark Channel on July 27 in the premiere of his Christmas film “An Ice Palace Romance,” starring Celeste Desjardins, which will be released in 2023.
