The Bookseller – Rights – Titan Books receives “epic” fantasy trilogy by Sara Omer

Titan Books has landed The Griffin King in a three-book deal from Sara Omer.

Fiction editor Katie Dent acquired the world English rights to Anna Carmichael from Abner Stein on behalf of Lane Clarke at Ultra Literary. The Griffin King will be released in July 2025.

Inspired by the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkish mythology, the trilogy is “full of morally dubious characters and forbidden love”, with “expansive” worldbuilding and queer and polyamorous love stories.

Dent commented: “I was completely blown away by the first few pages of The Griffin King by the scale of the world Sara has created and her beautiful prose. This is a truly epic fantasy full of complex, conflicting characters, terrifying monsters, and deadly plagues. This is a series to get lost in, and I can’t wait for readers to discover it.”

Omer added: “I wanted to create characters and cultures with an oriental flavour, with the same nuances often reserved for Western analogues. First and foremost, this story is about the burden of familial duty, the seduction of ambition and how bonds of love can sometimes be unconsciously abused to manipulate the people we care about. In addition, I also wanted to raise the question of how fantasy monsters would react to human assault and natural disasters, just as we see animals do today.”
