Popular actress and singer, 37, dies while shooting video with friends
Popular actress and singer Queenzy Cheng died while filming a short video with friends.
The 37-year-old was reportedly filming an episode for her social media channel Squad Sekawan on Tuesday when she suddenly felt nauseous and vomited stomach acid.
Staff on site called Malaysian emergency services for help and then rushed to fan the star as she fainted. According to those present, her heart was beating much faster than normal and her lips quickly turned purple.
An ambulance quickly arrived at the scene and paramedics provided immediate medical assistance to Cheng. But despite their efforts, she died in Damansara. “It was only 30 to 40 minutes from the time she said she was dizzy to the time she died,” co-star Chai Zi told local media.
Star had no previous illnesses
She was reportedly healthy and had no pre-existing medical conditions. Her shocking death was announced in a post to her 132,000 Instagram followers.
“A popular Malaysian singer, Queenzy captured the hearts of many with her soulful voice, especially with her enchanting Chinese New Year songs that exuded joy and tradition,” it said. “Her musical legacy will forever resonate in our hearts and serve as a comforting reminder of the joy she brought to countless lives.”
The cause of death was given as a brain aneurysm. She is to be cremated on Saturday. The 37-year-old came from Kangar, near the Thai border, and made her musical debut when she was just eight years old. She and three other singers founded the girl group M-Girls in 2001 and their albums won several awards.
Following Cheng’s death, her Squad Sekawan co-stars wrote on social media: “Ah Q, we will cherish your memories forever. Your laughter, love and spirit will always inspire us.”
