Dakota Johnson wants you to join her new book club

Dakota Johnson is the latest literary A-list celebrity to start a book club, alongside Dua Lipa, Emma Roberts and Kaia Gerber.

The community called TeaTime Book Club is inspired by the work of Madame Webb The star is looking for stories to turn into films and television shows for TeaTime Pictures, the production company she founded with former Netflix development executive Ro Donnelly.

Speak with Hectic In March 2024, the actor said, “There are a lot of people who do things like I do and have book clubs, and I always thought, ‘Oh, the way I read books is so different.’ Every time I read, I want to fall down the rabbit hole… delve into the book, delve into the language, delve into the references. Like, ‘Oh, what is that piece of art she’s talking about? Who is that musician?'”

Johnson continues this process with TeaTime’s latest omnibus: Pink Slime by Fernanda Trias, the story of a woman’s gradual nervous breakdown in the face of insurmountable circumstances.

The book club’s first novel was Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino, a novel about a woman who believes she is an alien. Johnson told the outlet the intention in creating the club was to have thought-provoking literary conversations with her fans. “TeaTime and I have an Instagram channel where you can chat with anyone who signs up, and every few days we post an in-depth report as we read together,” she said.

Although she is the latest in a long line of stars to start their own book club, Johnson is clear that her club is different from the others. “You see someone like me having a conversation with the author, but I don’t feel invested in it. I’m not very good at Instagram and I’m constantly trying to figure it out, but the more I’ve learned and seen, the more I realize there’s a real need for something like this,” she said Hectic“People need to think more deeply about certain things instead of talking about what damn face serum they use and thinking that’s the most important thing in the world.”
