Chris Eubank Jr. is the surprising favorite as Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent in the big chance for the world title for the British boxer

CHRIS EUBANK JR is said to be the next surprise opponent in the fight against the legendary Canelo Alvarez.

The 34-year-old Brit has a record of 33-3 and took revenge in a rematch with Liam Smith last year, scoring a tenth-round TKO in his last fight.

Now the son of the legendary Chris Eubank Sr. wants to attack the undisputed king of the super middleweight division.

At least according to ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez, who explains that Eubank Jr. is the new favorite to challenge the 33-year-old Mexican.

Canelo dominated Jamie Mungia in his last title defense in the 168-pound class in May.

He dropped his compatriot and then took a unanimous points victory, increasing his incredible career record to 64 wins, two losses and two draws.

After his fourth win in a row, he is now looking for his next opponent.

And Canelo is aiming for a return to the ring towards the end of 2024.

Eubank Jr., a former WBA title challenger, is said to be at the top of the list of potential names.

He has been publicly demanding an opportunity to fight Canelo for years.

But he has so far been turned down by matchmakers looking for the world champion in four weight classes.

But just as he prepares to turn 35 in September, he might finally get the birthday he’s been waiting for and the big payday of his career.

Most boxing fans are eager to see Canelo face fellow Mexican David Benavidez Jr., who has 24 knockouts in his 29-0 record.

Unfortunately for them, it seems to be a fight that Canelo is not excited about.

Regarding Benavidez, he recently told Fight Hub TV: “Maybe it’s one of the biggest fights, who knows.

“But you know, he doesn’t bring me anything, he only brings 25 pounds on fight night.

“I believe that if any promoter – not him, because he is not in a position to offer me money – I am the one, but if a promoter I work with offers $150 to $200 million, I will fight tomorrow.

“That’s the only reason I fight him. The only thing he brings to the table is 25 pounds more.”

“No pressure to fight. I don’t have to fight anyone. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, because I remember when that happened with Golovkin. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone.”

Canelo is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world due to his dominance in four different weight classes.

Eubank still failed to win a world title, but held the IBO super middleweight belt.
