Rapper BG must submit songs for court approval before public release

Rapper BG was ordered to submit his future songs to a judge for approval before release.

The rapper, who has worked with Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane, among others, was ordered to ensure that his songs correspond to his “rehabilitation goals”.

BG (real name Christopher Dorsey) was arrested in March after performing with rapper Boosie in Las Vegas. BG’s performance violated his probation for firearm possession, which requires him to avoid “unnecessary association with” felons.

BG, short for “Baby Gangsta,” should also not have publicly supported texts that praised two men serving life sentences for multiple murders, prosecutors argue. Such texts are “incompatible with the goals of rehabilitation,” prosecutors said.

BG began his career as a teenager, recording with Cash Money Records’ Hot Boys group alongside rappers Wayne and Juvenile, but his career ended abruptly when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2012 after being caught with three guns in his car, two of which were stolen.

He was released last year and recorded the comeback album “Choppers & Bricks” with Grammy nominee Mane.

Federal Judge Susie Morgan issued an order forcing BG to submit future song lyrics to her because prosecutors had “reasonable” concerns that he might deviate from his path to rehabilitation.

The rapper’s lawyers said the order represented an “unconstitutional restriction on free speech.”
