TS Graye turns fear into cathartic love songs

It’s Monday morning and TS Graye is recovering from a bit of a shock. Over the weekend, the 24-year-old musician took a shower at 3am to clean up her pal’s vomit after helping him home from a night of drinking. It was terrible,” she says, laughing. but I’m almost over it.”

She has better plans now. Graye is currently releasing her single The mother’s genes – a touching, synth-laden ode to her mother who, when Graye was eleven, cashed in loads of Tesco vouchers to book a studio session for her daughter. I had recorded a voice message on her phone and she said: This is incredible! We’re trying to book you for something.'” So definitely worth a tribute song – especially considering Graye has made every studio session special over the past few years.

Born and raised in the small town of Trowbridge in Wiltshire, she moved to Parsons Green in south-west London at the age of 17 to pursue music seriously – first as part of a prospective girl band, then as a solo musician. It’s been almost two years since the release of her debut EP. Graye area. Now it’s time for the advanced sound of Everything for lovewhich is due to be released next month.

“I feel like a different person since writing these songs, but I’m ready to bring my baby into the world,” she says. I’m the mother now!” The EP is an introspective, vulnerable breakup project, in whose five tracks Graye tries to cope with life as a young woman with sonic echoes of Caroline Polachek and Rosalía. I wanted to use my frustrations and turn them into something beautiful.

I also want a feeling of nostalgia to arise when people listen Everything for love”, Graye continues. But they can interpret the songs however they want. Someone said to me recently: Above all, thank you for making me feel anything. “This is so personal. I love it.”
