Ser Gwayne Hightower is another character who was changed for the television series. In the book, Gwayne is one of the commanding officers of the city guardthe military force stationed in King’s Landing, which is also the city’s police force. The important detail that can be found in House of the Dragon is that Daemon Targaryen was once Lord Commander of the City Watch. In the book, Ser Luthor Largent is Lord Commander when the dance begins, but Ser Otto distrusts Largent and has Gwayne keep an eye on him.
