Celebrated comedian Chris Rock will continue his role as narrator of the animated series, with original stars Terry Crews and Tichina Arnoldwho played the title character’s parents in the live-action show will also return to voice their respective characters, Variety revealed.

“I’m thrilled to share another fun side of my childhood with the world,” said Chris Rock, who will also serve as executive producer of the animated series, in a statement.

In addition to these well-known names, the rest of the main ensemble of Everyone still hates Chris has now also been revealed. Tim Johnson Jr. (Pacific Rim: Uprising) will take over the role of young Chris from original star Tyler James Williams, described as “a nerd who wants to be cool but is overshadowed by his younger brother, tormented by his little sister, and thwarted by his mean father.”

The rest of the young cast includes Ozioma Akagha (Marvel’s “What if…?”) as Tonya, “Chris’ spirited little sister, with the face of an angel and the heart of a demon, who gets along with her middle brother Drew but takes every opportunity to get Chris into trouble,” Terrence Little Gardenhigh (Dangerous force) as the voice of Drew, the “golden child of the family who is the epitome of black excellence: handsome, athletic, a ladies’ man, taller and cooler than his older brother Chris,” and finally Gunnar Sizemore (Kung Fu Panda) as Greg, Chris’ only friend at school, “who is girl-obsessed and status-conscious and is being raised by a single father.”

Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold return as Chris’ parents in the animated remake

Terry Crews, meanwhile, will be back in the jumpsuit (this time in animated form) to play Julius, Chris’ father “a gentle giant with a relentless work ethic and a penny-pinching streak. He grew up in poverty, so he knows the price of everything down to the penny” alongside Tichina Arnold as Chris’ mother Rochelle, who is described as “smart, strong-willed and caring, but she can also be hot-headed, especially when it comes to her children. She won’t tolerate any nonsense, so she quits more jobs in a month than most people do in their entire lives.”

Created by Chris Rock and Ali LeRoi, Everyone hates Chris ran for four seasons on UPN between 2005 and 2009 before moving to The CW. The series was a huge success with critics, received several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and won an NAACP Image Award in 2007. Similar to the original series Everyone still hates Chris will be inspired by the life of Chris Rock and “his experiences as a skinny nerd in a large working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, in the late 1980s.”

Sanjay Shah is the showrunner of “Everybody Still Hates Chris” and has revealed the reason why he wanted the job…

“I wanted this job to get free tickets to a Chris Rock stand-up show, but in the end we made something we are proud of and that stays true to the original series that we all loved.”

Everyone still hates Chris
is scheduled to premiere on Comedy Central later this year and will be available to stream on Paramount+ at a later date.
