Palgrave United Community Kitchen celebrates the success of its community cooking club

A community cooking club founded in Palgrave was a great success.

On 27 June, Palgrave United Community Kitchen (PUCK), Caledon Community Services (CCS), ecoCaledon and 100 Women Who Care Caledon (100WWCC) celebrated the success of the PUCK and ecoCaledon Community Cooking Club.

The club, which ran from January to June, was made possible thanks to funding from 100WWCC.

The club met once a month at Palgrave United Church to learn how to prepare healthy, plant-based meals. The club then tried the meals together and donated all the meals prepared to The Exchange, Caledon’s food bank run by CCS.

Karen McDonald, chair of 100WWCC, said the club has many different aspects of what 100WWCC would like to see happen with its donations.

“It impacted a lot of people in the community because they were able to bring the food to The Exchange and then it was used at the food bank, which was great,” McDonald said. “It really reached a lot of people.”

PUCK volunteer Barb Imrie said the club was proud to have donated over 500 healthy meals to The Exchange.

CCS Executive Director Geraldine Aguiar said the meals are a lifeline for those in need in the community.

“Our customers at The Exchange received over 500 nutritious meals prepared with so much care and love… that intention comes through,” Aguiar said.

Imrie said that following the club’s success, PUCK was keen to host the event again as soon as possible.
