Ann Wilson, lead singer of the American rock band Heart, has announced that she has cancer.

“The surgery was successful and I feel great,” said Wilson, whose band is known for the hits Barracuda, Magic Man, Alone and These Dreams.

“But my doctors are now advising me to have preventive chemotherapy and I have decided to do it.”

Wilson said the decision to postpone the tour was made on the advice of her doctors after she was advised to take the rest of the year off to “fully recover”.

“I really wish we could do these shows,” the singer said.

“Please be assured that I fully intend to be back on stage in 2025.

“Thanks for the support. This is just a break. I have a lot more singing to do.”

Wilson said her team is working on details for alternative tour dates and plans to notify ticket holders as soon as possible.

The singer became famous in the early 1970s along with her sister Nancy, the band’s guitarist and backing vocalist.

Following the rock star’s shocking announcement, fans posted supportive messages.

“Ann, YOU are the most important thing you should invest your energy in! All of us, your fans, will be there for you when and if you are ready! I wish you a speedy and full recovery,” one said.

“I’m a little disappointed but that means nothing to me. What means everything to me is that you’re healthy. Concerts and this and that can definitely wait. Sending love and support,” wrote another.

The Royal Flush Tour was scheduled to take place in over 50 locations across North America.

For all of them, the website now shows the message “postponed, new dates have to be set”.
