The 2024 WSOP Main Event begins as the biggest poker tournament and series continues

Record temperatures in Las Vegas are not slowing down the poker action in the Paris and Horseshoe ballrooms. The hot summer continues at the 2024 World Series of Poker and the WSOP Main event The No-Limit Hold’em World Championship began on July 4 with Day 1B and continues on Friday and Saturday with Day 1C and 1D.

The tournament features surprise celebrity appearances, performances by poker legends and more, including a special appearance by 17-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth on July 5. The final table begins on Tuesday, July 16. For the full 2024 WSOP schedule and event news and updates, visit WSOP.com. Players can follow @WSOP on X or Instagram.

Last year’s record turnout of 10,043 participants was even higher than the 2006 record and made eight players at the WSOP final table millionaires. This included $12.1 million for winner Daniel Weinman of Atlanta, who kicked off the 2024 Main Event on Wednesday with the legendary “Shuffle Up and Deal.”

“This is the biggest poker tournament in the world,” Weinman said. “I plan to play in this tournament for the rest of my life and I’m excited to see who hangs their name on the wall next.”

The prize pool for last year’s WSOP Championship event was $93.34 million, the largest in poker history.

“This has been a summer of legends and we are ready to celebrate another one on poker’s biggest stage,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. “We are ready for another record-breaking Main Event field. With almost a week left to register, we wish everyone safe travels and a chance.”

The 2024 WSOP World Championship with a buy-in of $10,000 is event number 81 of 98 events, including The nearera $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament that begins on July 15 and concludes the 55th annual World Series of Poker.

The WSOP Main Event consists of two-hour levels and long days of poker that will see players make it into the money and the $15,000 minimum payout at the end of Day 3 on Monday, July 8.

The fireworks started back on July 3rd and Day 1A, when the WSOP Main Event ended for two players on their very first hand. Another player on Day 1B also lost his entire starting stack of 60,000 chips and was eliminated on his very first hand of the tournament.
