Former Michigan State EDGE Bai Jobe moves to Kansas

Former State of Michigan EDGE Rusher Bai Jobe engaged in Kansas, according to Sean Cooper of C4 SportsPerformance on Twitter.

Jobe spoke with On3’s Steve Wiltfong about his involvement with the Jayhawks. Culture was very important to him.

“Man, I like the culture, the coaching staff has been good, they’ve been honest with me and I really like their scheme,” Jobe said. “Coach Leipold, they know what they’re doing. And the honesty, they’ve been honest with me. The last three portal guys are in the NFL, Austin Booker getting drafted makes a huge difference.”

Jobe only appeared in one game for the Spartans last season, playing in a 41-7 loss to Washington and recording one tackle.

A member of the Class of 2023, Jobe was a four-star recruit out of Norman (Okla.) Community Christian School, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the state’s top-ranked prospect, the class’s 10th-ranked EDGE rusher and the class’s 69th-ranked prospect.

Jobe moved to the United States from Senegal in 2018 and learned soccer online.

“Even though I don’t know everything about football, I know a lot because I started using YouTube and Google and things like that,” Jobe said.

His high school coach, Mat McIntosh, simply let his former player fly, immediately putting him in the college spotlight.

“We put him at defensive end and told him to just chase the ball,” he said.

Bai Jobe signs for Kansas, MSU’s Jonathan Smith is not bothered by the departures

Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Defensive Tackle Simon Barrow re-entered the transfer portal, head coach Jonathan Smith was indirectly asked about life as a college football coach when a player suddenly leaves the team shortly before the end of the spring training season.

“The squad will always be in flux,” Smith said with a slight smile and without a hint of resentment. “So we’ll see how the dust settles here in a week and a half. We’ll always try to expand our squad qualitatively, really in all positions.”

On Monday, second wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. entered the transfer portal. Gates had five catches last year and was praised by coaches last week for a productive, encouraging spring.

And now Jobe has chosen Kansas, where he will continue his college career.
