The ongoing war in Gaza remains a key issue for ethnic minority voters in the British general election, according to a poll.

British voters cast their ballots on Thursday (July 4), and shortly after voting closed at 10pm BST (2.30am IST), polls were released showing the Labour Party heading for a landslide victory, with 410 of the 650 seats.

According to a poll by The Independent and More In Common, British ethnic minorities prefer the Labour Party.

The poll shows that 53 percent of minority voters preferred Labour, compared to 65 percent of black voters.

Gaza war a big issue for Asians

The poll found that the Gaza war is an important issue for one in five Asian voters.

The poll also showed that Labour damaged its standing among British Muslim voters by supporting Israel in the early stages of the war, following the terrorist attack by Hamas and allied groups. The poll showed that voters are likely to continue to support Labour despite the discontent.

Ed Hodgson, head of research at More In Common, said: “Part of the UK’s Muslim community has lost trust in the Labour Party over its stance on Gaza. However, with less than a quarter of voters naming Gaza as one of their top three campaign issues, Labour’s vote share remains high. This means that regaining the trust of British Muslims will be largely a challenge after the election.”

Poll shows: Black voters believe Labour will improve lives

Black voters are most likely to vote Labour because they believe the party will improve their lives, according to a poll published by the Independent.

According to the poll, 57 percent of black British voters said Labour would improve their lives.

Overall, the cost of living crisis was the most important issue for all minority voters, with 72 percent of Asian-British voters and 70 percent of black voters saying so.
