Report: Netflix is making no progress with the TV series “Horizon Zero Dawn”

According to a report about the alleged “toxic, bullying, manipulative and vindictive behavior” of The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman, the television series Horizon Zero Dawn is apparently not moving forward at Netflix.

As Rolling Stone reported, twelve employees and a human resources complaint center detailed workplace crimes encouraged by Blackman, although the showrunner himself said those allegations were “completely untrue” and “completely absurd.”

At the end of the report, it says that Blackman was offered an overall development deal at Netflix in 2020 worth a reported $50 million, and that the Horizon Zero Dawn series was part of that package, along with an original space thriller series called Orbital.

Now, however, Rolling Stone has learned that the two projects are not moving forward. According to a spokesperson for Blackman, the showrunner has a “long, ongoing and close working relationship with Netflix” and “continues to work on new projects.” In addition, Blackman “signed a new multi-year deal earlier this year.”

The Netflix series “Horizon” was unveiled in 2022 with Blackman as showrunner and Aloy set to play the lead role.

“Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-made game with wonderful characters not often seen in the gaming world,” Blackman said at the time. “Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vibrant world of man and machine on a collision course with oblivion.”

“Her salvation comes in the form of a young warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she holds the key to saving the world,” Blackman added. “Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a major character in our story. My writing partner Michelle Lovretta and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable intellectual property into a series for all types of viewers.”

Sony said back in January 2024 that writing for the series had begun, but we haven’t heard anything really new since then.
