Britain’s Got Talent viewers are furious when they learn of Golden Buzzer act’s professional career

Britain’s Got Talent fans expressed their displeasure in a flood of critical comments about Sydnie Christmas’ Golden Buzzer performance due to her previous West End career.

Amanda Holden opened the 17th series of Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday 20 April by using her Golden Buzzer on singer and gym receptionist Sydnie. She surprised Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon and the audience with a powerful rendition of Tomorrow from the classic musical Annie.

Sydnie, 28, couldn’t believe her instant success and made it to the live final of the reality TV show. She opened up about her struggles in pursuing a singing career and how she often questioned her path.

“I had to pinch myself. I thought, this can’t be true… this doesn’t happen to people like me. I’ve always wanted to do this. To be on stage, to entertain, to perform and to sing… singing is my thing. I’ve been trying to make this happen my whole career,” said Sydnie.

However, ITV viewers have cast doubt on her claims after trawling through her online profiles and discovering that the Kent-born talent has an extensive background in the showbiz industry. One viewer expressed his disappointment, saying: “That’s a load of rubbish, I’ve just looked her up, been acting since I was nine, graduated from Performing Arts School and was in Starlight Express,” referring to the ninth longest running musical in the West End.

“Sydnie Christmas is a professional singer/actress already working in the West End. Thought #bgt was for amateurs not professionals. She took the golden buzzer away from someone who deserved it more.”

Another said: “Ah, the ‘I just want to be in the West End’ singer who has performed in Grease and Starlight Express. I would respect someone a lot more if they were just honest about their experiences.” A third viewer chimed in: “She was literally on stage in Starlight Express and others after graduating from performing arts school.”

One TV fan added to the conversation: “She was on Starlight Express for 4 years.” Another Britain’s Got Talent fan said: “Sydnie dreams of being on stage? Seems like it’s already happened? She works in the reception area of a gym though.”

Another person went a step further, sharing a home video of Sydnie singing with the caption, “Sydnie Christmas has had a long, hard road to get this far. This is from 9 years ago.”

Sydnie Christmas’ Instagram account, which has 6,656 followers, showcases her years on stage with Starlight Express. She recently said goodbye to the show and “hung up her skates” last year. Her profile features a throwback photo from her performances, along with a touching caption: “Two and a half contracts. Four years later. I’m hanging up my skates. Memories I’ll never forget. People I’ll cherish forever. Thank you, Starlight Express.”
