Noel Gallagher criticises singers who display ‘virtue’

Noel Gallagher has expressed his dislike for musicians who express political views on stage.

The 57-year-old former Oasis singer has criticised his contemporaries for speaking out about politicians and wars around the world.

Last weekend, musicians such as Damon Albarn, Dua Lipa and Charlotte Church took to the stage at Glastonbury to give talks about the war in the Middle East, the upcoming American presidential election and the British general election.

Speaking to The Sun, Noel criticised the outbursts, saying: “Now it’s getting a bit more woke, a bit moralising and a bit virtuous.”

“I don’t like it in music – little fucking idiots waving flags and making political statements, and bands coming on stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war awful, isn’t it? Let’s all boo war. Screw the Tories, man’ and all that.

“It’s like saying, play your damn music and get out of here.”

Not satisfied with that, he continued, “That’s too much. Donate all your money to the cause – that’s all, stop blathering about it.”

“Let’s say, for example, the world has gone a bit out of joint and you’re all in a field at Glastonbury. What’s the problem with that? I’ve got no problem with that.

“Everyone knows what’s going on in the damn world. And you have a phone in your pocket that tells you anyway. What’s the point of virtue?”
