Hisaishi’s music and style fit perfectly with the setting and premise of Leviathan

Leviathan is an alternate history narrative set in 1914 Europe just before the outbreak of World War I, and centers on a girl disguised as a boy and a prince whose paths cross on the titular airship named Leviathan when they join the Royal Naval Air Service. The upcoming anime is set to adapt the entire 2009 trilogy.

Since Joe Hisaishi’s music is often associated with Ghibli’s fantastic films, Leviathan may seem surprising at first. However, the series is probably exactly Hisaishi’s taste, considering that he has previously worked on science fiction series such as Mospeada, robot carnivaland two of the Mobile Suit Gundam Movies.
