To determine the rankings of the best road trips in each state, 24/7 Tempo scoured National Park Service websites, travel websites and state tourism websites. The natural beauty of many states is highlighted by the numerous parks, scenic drives and overlooks on these trips. Other states focus on history, sports or music.

Michigan’s neighbor Indiana, for example, is praised for its “Haunted Places Tour.” The 302-mile route begins on Primrose Road in South Bend, passes cemeteries, a former insane asylum, spooky bridges and other supposedly haunted places, and ends at the Willard Library in Evansville, where you may see the famous apparition of the Gray Lady.

In Ohio, the best road trip is all about football. The Winning Drive route begins with a tour of the Wilson football factory in Hardin, then continues to the home stadiums of the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State University Buckeyes, as well as the Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, where the NFL was founded.

Michigan’s best road trip is all about the natural beauty of the Great Lakes State.

24/7 Tempo named the route from Holland, Michigan to Potawatomi Falls in UP the best road trip in the state.

The 600-mile journey takes you along Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, past waterfalls, sand dunes, lighthouses, cliffs and numerous beaches.
