Sherrone Moore ‘super excited’ to see Michigan wide receiver in 2024

The wide receiver room for the Michigan The football team will be significantly different in 2024, with the departure of two loyal pass catchers in Roman Wilson And Cornelius JohnsonIn addition, Michigan lost two former four-star recruits to the transfer portal this offseason.

But new head coach Sherron Moore is optimistic about the group that Michigan is bringing back as receivers in a retooled offense. Although they are not quite as experienced as Wilson and Johnson, Samaj Morgan And Tyler Morris are two players Moore is looking forward to.

“Feel good about it, feel really good about it,” Moore said recently at a camp in Detroit. “People forget about guys like Tyler Morris and Semaj Morgan and Freddie Mooreall these guys, I am totally excited about them and Kendrick Bell another guy we’re excited about, so we did a good job.”

Morris, who will be a junior in the 2024 season, and Morgan, a sophomore and most experienced player in the 2023 season, will be the headline receivers for Michigan.

Morris has appeared in 23 games in his career, making 16 catches for 222 yards and a touchdown in the Rose Bowl against Alabama. Morgan played in all 15 games as a true freshman in 2023, making 22 catches for 204 yards and two touchdowns and completing four runs for 67 yards and two more touchdowns.

Moore, who is also a true freshman in 2023, played in 13 games and caught four passes for 32 yards, while also being used frequently on special teams.

Bell is completely untested as a wide receiver, was brought in as a quarterback recruit and is now moving to the position in Ann Arbor. Bell was a 2023 scout teamer and has not yet taken the field for Michigan.

But the best pass catcher on Michigan’s roster is probably not a receiver, but a junior tight end Colston Lovelandwho is expected to be a top tight end prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft.

In 29 career games, Loveland has 61 catches for 884 yards and six touchdowns and brings a hard-to-defend mix of size, strength, speed and smoothness as a route runner and pass catcher. In addition to Loveland, the Wolverines were also optimistic about the tight end Marlin Klein take a leap and fill the No. 2 role that Michigan will rely on in personnel packages 12 and 13. Klein has appeared in 12 career games and has one catch for eight yards.

“When you have a tight end like Colston Loveland, you obviously have a great receiver,” Moore said. “We’re really excited about him and Marlin Klein at the tight end position.”
