Rain showers and thunderstorms could disrupt holiday plans – Chris

Rain showers and thunderstorms could disrupt holiday plans – Chris

Good morning and Happy 4th to everyone! It never seems to fail, but today there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms that could spoil your festivities. Heavy rain and some strong to severe storms are also possible.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop this morning, lasting until midday before a brief break. More severe thunderstorms could develop in the late afternoon and early evening, with the potential for strong winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. This is also the time when the rain could fall the most. Parts of the state that see intermittent severe thunderstorms will see 1 to 3 inches of rain. Because of the clouds and showers, highs for many will likely be between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rain is also likely on Friday and Saturday as moisture wraps around our receding low pressure system, but this rain is unlikely to be as widespread and will be more spontaneous. There will be several dry hours on both days and even a few rays of sunshine. Maximum temperatures will be between 25 and 27 degrees.

There could be more showers across the state on Sunday, and isolated thunder is also expected. Severe weather is not expected at this time. Unsettled weather will continue on Monday, but drier and warmer days could return on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Enjoy the 4th! You can follow Minnesota Weather Services for FREE as storms develop today.
