The book “Anchoring Thru Life’s Challenges” will be released on August 19

Joy Furer is releasing her new book, Anchoring Thru Life’s Challenges (Mazo Publishers), about persevering in difficult situations by staying anchored in Hashem through the insights of Kabbalah and Torah. Joy is a school psychologist trained in crisis intervention whose goal is to help people with life challenges and give them tools to cope while reaching their potential. This book focuses on specific strategies and interventions based on her professional expertise in psychology.

Joy uses personal anecdotes to reinforce the book’s message. She recounts a story in which two robbers tried to kidnap her, as well as her mother’s experience of suffering from terminal breast cancer. “When someone is battling cancer and other life-threatening challenges, I strongly recommend not hiding it. Let others do mitzvos and good deeds in his/her merit. May this message be a blessing to the memory of my beloved mother, Zahava bas Yechezkel z’l, who embodied these words and inspired all who knew her.”

To stay strong in difficult times, she makes it a point to rely on Hashem: “As my father would say, ‘God has a divine plan. Always know that everything from God is for the good.'”

Originally from Los Angeles, Joy received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hunter College and her Masters in School Psychology from Long Island University. She has been a school psychologist for twelve years.

She has been involved and volunteered with kiruv organizations such as Aish HaTorah, Manhattan Jewish Experience, and Hineni, helping many non-observant Jews connect with their Judaism. She has also volunteered at Hillel on the college campus and enjoys helping others live life to the fullest. Joy’s passion for chesed finds its way into her new work, as “the underlying message of this book is that Hashem hears your prayers and the importance of giving alms and helping others, especially those less fortunate” (back cover).

The book launch will be held on August 19 at the Kingsway Jewish Center, 2810 Nostrand Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11229. VIP admission: $125, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with wine, appetizers, book summary, copy of the book, and book signing.
