Jujutsu Kaisen live-action video released to celebrate the release of volume 27

The newest Jujitsu Kaisen Volume was released in Japan this week. To promote volume 27, a Jujutsu Kaisen live-action video was released. This volume features the entire “Foolish Survivor” story arc, also known as the Takaba vs. Kenjaku fight. While many know the series as a whole for its breathtaking action and cool characters like Gojo Satoru, this particular section was made funnier in more ways than one by featuring a comedian.

The Foolish Survivor Arc

Many have called this volume “one of the best fights in manga,” which is a great accolade considering the high standards of shonen manga these days. What really makes this volume stand out, however, is the mix of humor in this storyline.

A teaser and a trailer

On July 3, YouTube channel Shonen Jump released an incredibly “serious” looking preview of the alleged live-action. This clip featured a deep and menacing voiceover followed by a quick flip through the actual manga pages. The voiceover may sound scary, but the lines include the following comedy references such as “He said only those who understand should laugh” and “A large group of comedians put their lives on the line.” It was also accompanied by teaser images of a live-action version of Takaba.

The actual sketch, titled “Fanta Academy’s Superhuman Teacher,” was released at midnight on July 4. In this short clip, Takaba is seen as a teacher who asks his students, “If my friend was a jujutsu wizard, what kind of person would he be?” The student responds with a somewhat awkward pun about curtains (a reference to a curtain technique in the series) before Kenjaku suddenly appears.

We have to admit that the sketch isn’t very funny at all overall, but that alone makes it so funny, as Takaba’s character from the manga is known for his bizarre humor that no one understands. It’s the perfect kind of absurd comedy that fans love and would unwittingly crank up to full volume. And since the video has been viewed over a million times in less than 24 hours, it’s certainly a comedy that will appeal to some.
