Richard Osman confirms who plays Joyce in The Thursday Murder Club

Further casting news for Richard Osman’s “The Thursday Murder Club” has been confirmed; Joyce Meadowcroft has been found for the film adaptation.

In his podcast “The Rest is Entertainment” with Marina Hyde, Osman confirmed that Bridget Jones star Celia Imrie will play Joyce.

In an episode first streamed on May 20, the former Pointless host confirmed that Imrie is the last of the quartet of protagonists to be cast.

“Joyce is Celia Imrie, which I’m delighted about,” Osman told Hyde, who in turn revealed that she had foreseen the possibility that Imrie would be the perfect choice.

The “Calendar Girls” actor, who recently appeared in the Netflix drama “The Diplomat,” will star alongside Helen Mirren as Elizabeth Best, Pierce Brosnan as Ron Ritchie and Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim Arif.

“She’s so mischievous,” Osman then said of Imrie, explaining that the star would also finance the film “Thursday Murder Club.”

“And she’s also financing a large part of the film,” he revealed. “She invested $35 million.”

“It’s all set,” the novelist continued, apparently hinting that it won’t be long before fans are blessed with more exciting news.

An official filming date could be next, as Osman previously announced that filming would take place “this summer, from late June to September, entirely in England.” Chris Columbus, who directed Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films, is set to direct.

“The Thursday Murder Club” is Osman’s debut novel and was published in 2020. It is about four pensioners at Coopers Chase Retirement Village in Kent who investigate the murder of a property developer.

The cinema release date for “The Thursday Murder Club” has not yet been set. The book and its sequels can be purchased on Amazon.
