Heads behind Chelsea’s famous academy resign for 20 years – ‘insane blow’ – Blues fans are ‘concerned’

CHELSEA fans are devastated to learn that academy director Neil Bath has left the club.

The 58-year-old Bath has been manager of the Blues’ academy since 2004.

He played a crucial role in developing the club’s young stars – many of whom made the breakthrough into the first team.

These included Reece James, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

This came at a critical time for Chelsea, as the club had been banned from transfers, increasing the importance of academy talent.

Jim Fraser, who joined Chelsea’s academy as director shortly after Bath, is also expected to leave the club.

An official announcement is expected in the coming days.

And fans are furious after learning of the departure of club legend Bath.

One passionate fan said: “Neil Bath’s departure from Chelsea is a huge blow.

“Look around Europe and see how many top footballers have emerged from its ranks over the last decade.

“I thought his promotion a year ago was a positive thing, now I’m worried.

“People can argue about their different views on how the project should proceed, and everyone is entitled to their own position. But this is just categorically a loss.”

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall posts farewell video for Leicester fans and says ahead of transfer to Chelsea: “It’s time for me to go”

“The enduring evidence of the success of Bath’s work is there for all to see. We don’t know the story yet, but damn it.”

And another added: “Nothing surprises me anymore. These clowns are ruining the club.”

A third said: “A huge, huge loss. Possibly marks the end of Chelsea as a destination for the development of elite students.”

“Still, I fully expect that people who have been brainwashed by BlueCo’s empty promises will try to portray it as a good thing.”

And a fourth replied: “The systematic removal of all the components that made us £3 billion worth is something quite special.”

Chelsea’s academy trophies over the last decade include five FA Youth Cups, two U18 Premier League titles, one U21 Premier League title and two UEFA Youth Leagues.

Bath previously said of the Blues’ success in the youth department: “I will always say it is a comprehensive effort by everyone involved.”

“There is a particular emphasis on scouting and coaching, and coaches will not be successful if the talent is not at the right level.

“That’s why people like Jim Fraser, Darren Grace and their recruitment team deserve credit for bringing such talented players on board at a very young age.

“That’s a big part of our development program. On the other hand, you also need the right coaches.”

“Basically, it’s about having good staff in all areas who work together as a team.”

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard acknowledged Bath’s influence on Mount and Abraham’s goals in the Premier League.

Lampard said: “We had a few pints with Neil Bath!”
