Based on the principle that relationship building is more effective than mere networking, participants Strictly speaking Learn more about WHO every person is rather than just what they do or sell. As proof that this principle works, regular participants in the last five months have either received referrals, been invited to collaborate, or actually won someone’s business.

At these meetings, attendees hear from business and community leaders who provide them with tools and resources to help them increase their profits. The speaker at the June event was Caitlin Kasheta, co-founder and executive director of Main Street Apopka, an organization whose goal is to revitalize downtown Apopka through strategic, community-based efforts by fostering a thriving business district. They focus on the needs of the downtown business sector and surrounding community members and use the “Main Street Approach” to restore and stimulate a thriving downtown economy. Caitlin explained Main Street America’s 4-point approach:

design Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, celebrate historic character and promote accessible, people-centered public spaces.

Financial support – Market the downtown’s defining assets, communicate unique features through storytelling and support the local shopping experience.

Economic vitality Build a diverse economic base, catalyze smart new investments, and nurture a strong entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Organization – Build leadership and strong organizational capacity, ensure broad community engagement, and forge cross-industry partnerships.

Also present wereThe Voice of Apopka Owners/Publishers Reggie and Denise Connell, who were able to attend their first “Heads Up at Eggs Up” event. They spent some time explaining the “why” and mission of The Apopka Voice.

Denise said, “I wish we had 10 reporters just to cover the stories that came out at that hour-long gathering. I learned so much about these business owners that I didn’t know – not only their hearts to truly serve Apopka and their great ideas, but also fun stories, like we were sitting down with world travelers and rock band members! The backstories and Why behind who they are and what they do in the community was just inspiring. We have amazing people here who are really committed to this city.”

“Heads Up at Eggs Up was a great opportunity for us to share our vision of telling the story of Apopka every day and learning more about others in the community,” added Reggie. “Mark provides an important service to the participating business owners and we appreciated the chance to see this in action.”
