The length of Fox Chapel’s 11th hole ranges from 130 meters from the white tees to 160 meters from the tips and features an island green surrounded by sand rather than water.

“It’s the original short,” said Alex Childs, head professional at Fox Chapel Golf Club. “For those familiar with the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, this is kind of the inspiration for the island green.”

“We want to stay true to the essence of Seth Raynor,” Childs said when asked if the club ever considered replacing the sand around the green with water. “The only adjustment we’ve made is we let people walk up the slope. There used to be steps you walked up, and there’s a famous picture of a plane crash right next to the 11th hole because that hole was adjacent to Rodgers Field, the first airport in Allegheny County.”

If you play the hole today and the flag is positioned on the left side of the green, an ideal tee shot approaches the middle front area of ​​the green.

“It’s just one of those holes where you hit the ball in the middle of the green, make your two putts, get a par and you’re good to go.”
