Stony Brook wins at the Press Club of Long Island Media Awards

Stony Brook University students and staff were well represented at the Press Club of Long Island’s 2024 Media Awards, taking home 17 awards, including seven first place honors.

The Press Club of Long Island is one of the largest branches of the Society of Professional Journalists and is dedicated to protecting and defending First Amendment rights, promoting ethical standards and providing continuing education for its members. The Media Awards honor the best in local journalism and include the induction of the newest members into the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame.

PCLI Awards

The Statesman won first place for best college news website, investigative student journalism (Viola Flowers) and best college newspaper reporter (Mariam Guirgis)The Stony Brook Press won first place for best magazine and student journalism story (Kaitlyn Schwanemann) and also second place for best college news website. The Press He also won in the illustration category.

Stony Brook University Magazine took home two awards, including first place for the report “Her Heart of Rock and Roll” and third place for the report “A Living Tradition: Two PhD Students Develop a Collective Approach to Preserving Endangered Languages.”
