RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, MI – A Michigan State Police tracking dog has tracked down an 81-year-old woman who was missing in the woods for 20 hours.
The family reported the Ogemaw County woman missing on July 2 after she was last seen around 10 p.m. the night before. According to a news release, police found the woman’s coat, purse and cellphone in her garage.
Michigan State Police Trooper Adam Whited and his K9 partner Loki were then called to assist in the search. Loki began traversing the woods behind the woman’s home and found a pair of gloves and a stick leading into a “steep ravine,” police said.
Nearby, Loki found the woman at the bottom of the ravine, unable to move. Rescue workers carried her out of the forest as a heavy rainstorm hit the area.
As the police learned, the woman had already been in the forest for more than 20 hours before she was found.
