Workers’ strike at Kenneth D. Bailey Academy could mean alternative plans for District 118 this fall

Workers’ strike at Kenneth D. Bailey Academy could mean alternative plans for District 118 this fall

Dr. Alicia Geddis, superintendent of Danville’s 118th District, has announced that a “Plan B” may be necessary for students at Kenneth D. Bailey Academy this coming fall semester. During the 118th District board meeting on July 3, Dr. Geddis announced that the company currently installing the new doors and glass panels at Bailey Academy is currently on strike. She says if the strike continues, students may not be able to use the building at the start of the new school year.

Dr. Geddis says the district will apply for an emergency permit from the Vermilion County Regional Office of Education to allow the district to use the old Carle building at 2300 North Vermilion early. The district recently entered into a minimum agreement that includes plans for alternative instruction, preschool classes and an eventual daycare for District 118 employees. Dr. Geddis says the exact plans for this emergency use have yet to be worked out.

The original plan for this fall was to use the Carle building for two morning and two afternoon preschool classes. Dr. Geddis says it is currently unknown if that plan will need to be changed; and it certainly depends on the length of the strike and whether students from Kenneth D. Bailey Academy need to be relocated.
